I’m  Michael antinarrela

Vice President/Founder/Deaf

Mike is the Vice President and Co-Founder of Sign and Dine, Inc.

Mike was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, and grew up in the small town of Mathis, Texas. He graduated from Mathis High School in 2004 in the top 10 of his class, and went on to graduate from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.  Mike was born deaf but it would take 2 years before his mom suspected that something was wrong with his hearing.  He was eventually diagnosed with having profound hearing loss in both ears, most likely as a result of his premature birth.

In elementary school, Mike chose to be mainstreamed from the deaf education program at Calk Elementary in Corpus Christi to the special education program at Weber Hardin Elementary in Mathis.  A lot of people thought he was crazy, that he was foolishly leaving something that was tailored to help someone like him. However, at an early age, Mike understood that there were more hearing people than deaf in the world, and he will have to learn how to interact with them.  It would take multiple school board meetings and a narrow vote, but he succeeded in his endeavor.

After Mike graduated from Texas A&M in 2009, he went to work for a local computer software company.  While there, he befriended a deaf co-worker named “Herman”. Herman was extremely lonely at his job because nobody knew sign language, and it was too much trouble for him to write down what he wanted to communicate to other coworkers.  Mike offered to help Herman out by interpreting interactions with coworkers for him, as well as starting dialogues with various supervisors to make the workplace more deaf-friendly. Mike went back to school in 2015 for a 2nd degree, this time at UTSA, graduating in 2018.  He currently works as a courier for a local courier company.

Mike Antinarella has devoted himself to supporting Sign and Dine, Inc as a premier source for those learning ASL (American Sign Language). An organization with goals to provide, a no cost place for groups or individuals around the United States, an environment to practice and improve their ASL skill.
